Iconic mountain catches fire.
There can be no planning for a scene like this. Occasionally Lord Shiva gives His blessings.
We made a second pass to record a quick video, attached below the stills.

wonderful!
Incredible! Can’t thank you enough for bringing this to us.
Rajan , is it a volcano exploding ? such marvels of Nature could only be clicked by an extraordinary photographer . Please keep sending us the photos of beautiful Iceland , as this is the only way we can appreciate the land
Fernando-bab: Thanks. It is not a volcano. Please see response below to Antonio-bab.
Wooww, spectacular. This is the most photographed landscape in Iceland, but surely nobody ever photographed it like this! Muitos parabens!
Muito obrigado, Paul. Yes, this is a much photographed icon, and conditions such as this are uncommon and furthermore, you have to be in the right place at the right time to record them.
Stunning! Excuse me for what may be a daft question, Rajan-bab: this is not a volcanic eruption, I venture, and it is unlikely to be the sun illuminating the top so very neatly; so what does Kirkjufell being on fire mean? Thanks.
Antonio-bab: Kirkjufell (“church mountain”) is not a volcano. What you see is the tip of the mountain lighted by the first rays of the rising sun, creating the illusion of the mountain catching fire.
Kailash in Reykjavik?! What a great capture, Rajan.
Kailash is far more imposing. Kirkjufell is a delicate beauty. Both are jewels of Nature.
WOW!!!!! It looks like a volcano about to “blow its top”! Just perfect timing my friend! So well done! So technically and aesthetically perfect!
Well done my friend.Dan
Thank you, Dan. It was quite a sight.
This is such a fantastic shot. Thank you!
Thanks, Nishant.
