Light in Iceland: Hallgrímskirkja

Celebration of Icelandic light.

Inaugural post of a new series, Light in Iceland.

The light in Iceland can be exquisite year-round. From mid-November to early February, the winter sun hovers just above the horizon and a long twilight bookends the day. Pink, reddish hues suffuse the landscape with an otherworldly glow characteristic of this sub-Arctic island. Likewise, during peak summer the low midnight sun sings its own symphony of soft honeyed tones. The range of this soul-purifying visual experience will absorb us in this series.

To kick off, we focus on a Reykjavík icon, Hallgrímskirkja, at once recognizable from all points in the city and beyond.

The collection will be archived here.
