A study in light.
The phenomenon of an object changing its appearance with the direction and angle of light is well known. Very few places offer this experience on a macro scale as dramatically as the great outdoors of Iceland. The three images of Ljótipollur below, taken on three separate occasions, illuminate the point splendidly.
Ljótipollur means “ugly puddle” in Icelandic and the crater lake is one of the highlights in the south-central Highlands. Likely it wasn’t a pretty sight to the earliest settlers who ventured into the area. Today, however, it is strikingly beautiful.
A most beautiful landscape Rajan! A desolate looking area. Maybe from a different planet. Well done and an excellent from a land seldom seen my brother!
Richard, David, and Bob: Thanks much, gentlemen.
It could be MARS ! or another alien planet :-0
Indeed, Sanjeev-bab. The Highlands of Iceland have that look and feel.
I’ve never seen it “backlit” before. Very impressive drone work and I love the study in light theme. I don’t think people who’ve never been there believe that the colors are real. On many of my images from here I choose to turn down vibrancy and saturation. But your shots have a sunlight and color glow that reminds me of your Indian images. Well done!
Curt: As you know, it is impossible to plan or predict in advance what you are going to get when you set out into the Icelandic landscape. The backlit scene was pure luck and lasted less than 5 seconds as the aircraft circled the crater.
Well seen.
Fabulous!
Enjoyable and elucidating. Thanks Rajan
