First powder of the season.
Shot from the helicopter near Landmannalaugar and Jökulgil, these images show the Icelandic Highlands landscape at the season’s turn. The first frame looks toward Brennisteinsalda, its reddish slopes dusted with the year’s first snow. The remaining images are from Jökulgil, where the rhyolite hills reveal the same light touch of winter.
A second set will follow in the coming days.

Your eye for abstractions, textures and colors is superb. I especially enjoy the first of this series for the hazy clouds in the background. They provide an ethereal quality to the high resolution in the foreground, and balance the scene.
Each season brings a fresh new look to the Country amigo! These are beautiful! Snow only adds to the visual enjoyment of this alien landscape!
Thank you, amigo Dan.
It’s like confectioner’s sugar over a bundt cake, Rajan. Simply magnificent!
Good visual analogue!
I never tire of looking at this stunning landscape of magnificent geometry. But I rarely see it dusted with white. Thanks. Well done.
Curt: Thanks. A stroke of luck to be flying on a day when there was the first dusting. As you know, it is not like we can predict what’s going to happen with photography weather in Iceland.
