A new series.
Beyond the eastern reaches of the mighty Vatnajokull glacier in Iceland lies the wilderness of Lónsöræfi*, a desolate realm of wonder and awe. Here amid strange formations and rugged canyons, Nature’s brush has gone to town with a colour palette that looks unreal. This is the inaugural instalment of a series devoted to this remote gem.
* Pronounced lones-uh-rye-we.
The Lónsöræfi collection.
Beauty of the earth in the first three images, but except in the last!… That is my feeling…
Thanks, Sarmila. Good to hear from you.
Just a mysterious landscape Rajan! An “alien” planet despite its reality! Just wonderful compositions #1-3.
Thank you, Dan.
I agree with Mr. Fonseca on the discontinuity in this set of images. The first three are wonders, each having a distinct and sumptuous palette of hues and textures. The fourth image stands in sharp contrast.
Thank you, Bob. I agree about the final image. I have responded to Antonio’s remarks below.
Loved to see the first three pictures but when I came to the last, it struck a dissonant note in the middle of all this beauty of Creation. i assume hunting is their life style over there and I won’t comment on that except to say that, in m view, it is jarring to see it in this Series.
Antonio-bab: Thank you for your remarks.
Yes, the final photo is dissonant from the first three. As a photographer, I take what is in front of me as is. I came across these folks quite by chance. It is rare to see humans in this area.
Hunting is an Icelandic tradition and it is strictly regulated. Only a few permits are issued. They hunt for food not for pleasure. Which is relatively more civilised than buying the neatly packaged meat at a grocery store where the unpleasant work has been done by somebody else.
Thank you Rajan-bab. My remark was not meant as a criticism. You are right – as a photographer you got to record what is in front of you. If you were not to do it, you would be faulted for precisely that. I can not thank you enough for what must surely be an extraordinarily demanding work. Many Thanks.
