Light of the midnight sun.
Kálfatjarnarkirkja was built in 1893 and is among the largest churches in Iceland. The name is a compound of Kálf (calf), Tjörn (pond), and Kirkja (church).
Located on the northern side of Reykjanes, it faces the setting sun during the weeks around the summer solstice. The final rays at this time of the year in Iceland can be a deeply spiritual experience.
The first composition is in a sense remarkable. Only in Iceland can you fit in one frame a pond, a church, a graveyard, a volcano (Keilir), and a golf course.
