Goa’s mango supremacy.
‘Tis the mango season in India and speaking of mangoes, no cultivar comes within driving distance of Goa‘s Mancurado. The Mancurado reigns supreme in Mangostan, nonpareil in both taste and appearance. The rest of India has to make do with the inferior Alphonso and other mongrel varieties.
This isn’t an empty boast. I turn to Vivek Menezes to make the case.
Where can I buy Goa Mango Mankurad online?
You got it right Rajan-bab.
The fruit itself is nothing to look at. It doesn’t always present a bright red appearance, it is mostly asymmetrical, has no overpowering aroma like other varieties and overall has a distinctly plebian look.
But peel off the skin and it tastes like someone dropped it down from paradise.
Roland-bab: mog asundi.
Wonderful story, Rajan, and beautiful portrait in the first photo. I have to ask if my local Indian grocery store if they can get Mancurados. I suspect the answer will be ‘no’, which will be my loss.
Thank you, Bob. The Mancurado has a short shelf life and therefore unlikely to be a candidate for export.
