Hallgrímskirkja and the Passing Moon

Moments held.

The full moon traced its arc over Reykjavík last week, granting a few brief alignments with Hallgrímskirkja. These photographs catch that conjunction in a city that draws its vitality from the natural world, renewing itself with every hour and season, a city that never repeats itself.

Last month I published a column titled Til varnar Reykjavík (“In Defense of Reykjavík”) in Morgunblaðið, Iceland’s premier newspaper. The English translation is available at this link.

A final note. These photographs were made through traditional photographic practice, both in the field and in post-processing. No AI and no Photoshop contrivances were involved. What you see is what stood before me. The vantage points required prior planning; the weather required grace. Celestial movements are predictable; Iceland’s notoriously fickle moods answer to no one. On this occasion, Lord Shiva smiled.
