The season turns.
At this time of year the sun in Iceland settles into its low arc along the horizon, where it remains through the day. The light enters a new phase – richer in colour, longer in angle, and more revealing of form.
These images were taken over the course of the past 7 days.
The second image suffers from atmospheric distortion at full resolution, a reminder that long-distance compression in cold air remains a difficult problem to resolve in post-processing, even when the quality of the light is exceptional.

I am amazed at the breath, the expanse, the rugged features of this land! It is so “alien” to this Westerner that I think I have just been the 1st 2 footed humanoid to traverse this land! A video?
Thank you, amigo. I have some informal videos taken during the time I was staking these locations which perhaps I will cobble together by and by.
Thank you Rajan. I find them all sublime. #2 included. To a non-resident, I don’t miss what I’ve never seen. Hope you’re staying warm enough. Richard
Thank you, Richard. Always good to hear from you.
Brrrrrrr! Beautiful imagery, but viewing them makes me shiver. If asked, I pick the last one as my favorite for its complementary colors and lovely lines. Both interact in a very special way to produce a sense of serenity, albeit cold temperature serenity, but serenity nevertheless. Nice work.
Thank you, Bob.
