On this Good Friday.
Þorgeirskirkja is new (2000) but its location is of historic significance to the Icelandic nation. Around 1000 AD, the pagan chieftain Þorgeir, who lived here on Ljósavatn farm, consummated Iceland‘s adoption of Christianity by tossing idols of the Norse gods into the nearby Goðafoss (“Waterfall of the Gods”).
I share your interest in Icelandic churches. I even added an album to my website titled “Church”. Here the sunset is superb as well as sublime. I usually don’t connect directly with modern churches, but the history here, combined with your composition, makes this one special. Thanks
Curt, we are of one mind regarding Icelandic churches.
Perfect for such a solemn day, Good Friday amigo!
Very well seen and composed!
Thank you, amigo.
Rajan. Masterful !I’m with Bob about the small patch of light. Somehow it organizes the image in a soft, but sure way. Loosely reminds me of the poem, “There was a Jar in Tennessee” by Wallace Stevens.
Thank you, Richard. I shall look up the poem.
The thing I love about this photo is that small oblong patch of light midway between the church and the foreground. To me, it focuses one’s attention despite not being the object of interest.
Thanks, Bob. Yes, that patch of Fall colour is just in the right place.
