Summer nights
Several mountains in Iceland go by the name Helgafell. In most instances the name derives from the Icelandic word helgur (holy, spiritual).
The Helgafell featured below is in Hafnarfjörður just outside Reykjavík, and a popular hiking destination for the local community.
From May until July the low midnight sun on the northern horizon is incident on the dome-shaped profile of the mountain. When the stars align, magic happens. (Note: the strike rate is very low and it takes many attempts to acquire something worthwhile.)
Part of the Sumarnætur collection (Summer Nights).
The name of the mountains befits both the compositions my friend! IN #1, the light, the snow covered rear mountain, the reough textured surface just befits this rugged and desolate looking area. Such fine photography!
woh!!! thank you sir
Good to hear.
The first photo should be called “Worthwhile, Really, Really, Worthwhile”. There’s such a nice blend of colors and textures in it; it is a feast for one’s eyes.
Thanks much, Bob.
