I recall the Markarfljót coming up a lot in Njal’s Saga, though I assume these photos are way upstream. Wasn’t it the river Skarp-Hedin slid across on the ice when he killed Thrain Sigfusson?ReplyCancel
Jackson: My knowledge of Njáls Saga is cursory but yes, Þráinn Sigfússon was killed on the Markarfljót river, but closer to Fljótshlíð. The canyon shown above is further up Markarfljót and up in the Highlands.ReplyCancel
Rajan my friend! You live in a most beautiful land! The colorful levels/striations of rock formation due to different geological causes you have caught so beautifuly! The rugged landscape reminds me of the planet Mars or even our moon. Well done!ReplyCancel
Very well done. Your drone photography is impressive. My eyes were drawn to the reddish rocks on the lefthand side of the 1st photo. What mineral is that?ReplyCancel
Thanks, Bob. The reds are caused by the presence of iron.ReplyCancel

Marvelous views, Rajan. The Sydra Fjallabak was a favorite of ours last year. And several years ago we did a 4-day Laugarvegur hike to Thorsmork that is forever memorable. You’ve captured the sharp brutality of the canyon in crayon box colors that speak to its wonders. Thank you.ReplyCancel

Thank you, Dan. The interior of Iceland is like an alien planet.
