Hvannadalshnjúkur

Iceland’s highest peak.

Hvannadalshnjúkur (approximate pronunciation: kvanna-daalsh-nyookur) is a compound of Hvönn (Angelica), Dal (valley), and Hnjúkur (mountain peak). It sits atop the Öræfajökull volcano, a tongue of the mighty Vatnajökull glacier.

These images were taken on two separate occasions a few weeks ago.
