Faces of Goa.
I saw her walking towards the terraced fields of Khola in Canacona, Goa, where I was setting up my drone. The sickle-wielding Surang Velip was in her own territory yet she seemed nervous. Women in these remote parts aren’t accustomed to cameras pointed at them, and much as I tried to put her at ease, her flinty expression did not waver. Within minutes she had disappeared into the jungle.

The third photograph, the portrait, is my favourite. One can keep looking at it and try to fathom what must be going on in Surang bai’s mind at that moment…fear, intrigue, curiosity, excitement.
Fear, no. A little nervous, yes.
