Outdoors on a monsoon morning in Goa.

Among the benisons of my young days were the open spaces the minute one walked out of the home. Those spaces have now been thoughtlessly filled with ugly concrete. Panjim, once possessing of great charm and beauty, has been transformed into just another Indian town, a sorry pile of visual dreck. Mine was the last fortunate generation. Today one has to drive well beyond Panjim in search of the few surviving pockets of the great Goan outdoors.

These are scenes from a recent Sunday I spent with my little niece Priyanka (Saraswati) amid the luscious surroundings of Quitala, a ward in the village of Salvador do Mundo. This is the best we can do for her generation.
