From the era of real books.
The historic Central Library (established in 1832) was one of Panjim‘s treasures, a vital resource to the city’s intellectual life. The Library was fortunate to have attracted an enthusiastic staff, proud of its workplace and sensitive to the needs of its users. I say “was” because this Library, then located in a beautiful heritage building in the centre of town, has now moved to a concrete monstrosity of Third World build quality on the outskirts of the city. The barbarians have taken over.
Yes this was cool place with old structure. I spend lots of time there.
Any idea whats is there now?
Regards,
Vivek
Vivek, I don’t know the current status.
Thank you for that, dear Rajanbab. It was indeed a very peaceful place to read. Unfortunately, the concrete monstrosity has taken over. Ah Well! What is New?
Well, JC-bab, that’s ‘development’ for you.
The old location I believe was in the Menezes Braganza Institute. It had a children’s section off to the side. I spent many a morning there during my school holidays (back in the early ’70s). My mother would drop me off there when she went to work and pick me up on her way back.
Murari, yes, the original location was at Menezes Braganza.
