Blood on his mind.
Organized bullfights, known in Goa as Dhirio, are now illegal. But popular Goan traditions are not going to be reined in by pesky laws. These days the ‘action’ is often scheduled in the wee hours of the morning; this way the cops charged with preventing the fight can also place their bets.
This bull was ‘loosening up’ for an impending duel.
I came across a man walking a bull in the wet sands near Benaulim beach. Upon inquiry the man explained that this is a regimen exercise to strengthen the limbs of the bull for the fights. It does not appear to be a ‘loosening up’.
The Konkani term for the bull’s activity is “dhaavdayta.” The aim here wasn’t to target his limbs as much as it was to just get him to be mobile.
