The Church at Loutolim

Founded in 1581.

The Church of Salvador do Mundo in Loutolim, Goa, was built by the Jesuits in 1586 in the Mannerist Neo-Roman style (vide The Parish Churches of Goa by José Lourenço, Amazing Goa Publications, 2005).

Due to the lack of sufficient clearance between the façade and the street in front of it, it is not easy to take a clear shot without having other elements infringe on the frame. The village of Loutolim, by the way, was home to the famous Goan cartoonist Mario Miranda.

This church was built 429 years ago. So assuming that every generation produced an offspring at an interval of 30 years, I see that I am the 14th generation Lotlikar from the Lotlikar who was present in Loutolim when this church was built.

So 14 generations or 429 years later it took a “Parrikar” to show a “Lotlikar” a church built in Loutolim (place of origin of the lineage). Rajan bhai, yhen ooshnne oorle mhajer! 🙂ReplyCancel

Thanks, Roland. This is part of my ongoing efforts to document Goa’s heritage before it is completely dismantled.ReplyCancel
