Isolation. The church at Narfeyri on Iceland‘s Snæfellsnes peninsula dates back to 1563; the current structure was built in 1888. Here lived the farmer and mathematician Vilhjálmur Ögmundsson (1897-1965).     Across the fjord is the colourful rhyolite mountain Drápuhlíðarfjall.

Columnar basalt. A spectacular wall of basalt columns in the southern Highlands of Iceland. Vehicular access to this area is granted only once a year during the annual sheep roundup in the Fall.
