Carnival of colour. The intense colours of volcanic rhyolite in Grenisgil (lit. Den Canyon) in southeast Iceland come alive after a spell of heavy rain. Also check out the video short below.

Isolation. The church at Narfeyri on Iceland‘s Snæfellsnes peninsula dates back to 1563; the current structure was built in 1888. Here lived the farmer and mathematician Vilhjálmur Ögmundsson (1897-1965).     Across the fjord is the colourful rhyolite mountain Drápuhlíðarfjall.
