Narrow ridges lined with palm trees running through paddy fields are a common sight in Goa. Built primarily for access and known as baan in Konkani, they are as old as the fields themselves. The arresting geometry of one such baan in the village of Goa Velha drew me in.
Flying over the state of Kerala in southern India, the visitor is struck by what seems to be an endless panoply of palm fronds blanketing the land.
